ON THE COVER DEPARTMENTS
cover A hyperspectral image of the abandoned Bauer Mill Site of the Stockton Mining District in central Utah, as seen by CASI (Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager) airborne sensor data. Wind has blown acid-rich mine tailings from the former mine northwest into the upper left corner of the image. Limonitic materials are green and yellow. Vegetation is red and orange. The Utah Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have identified several environmental hazards at the site and are concerned about potential eolian transport of the tailings toward Tooele and the Tooele Army Base.
